Overview
Description

Industrial engineering is the active and dynamic discipline of advanced scientific management—the engineering of making smart decisions.

Hong Kong is rapidly transforming itself into a knowledge-based economy. To keep up with HKUST’s best efforts to provide a world-class tertiary education and train future leaders in the field of industrial engineering, our undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IEEM) adopts a modern decision analytics based approach. Our curriculum covers predictive and prescriptive analytical tools, statistical models, machine learning algorithms, simulation, and creative modeling, bringing it in line with the needs of the modern economy. Building on this foundation of techniques, IEEM students are equipped with domain-specific knowledge in engineering management or logistics management, ranging from operations planning and scheduling to transportation systems and policies, from supply chain management to quality control, and from product design to the management of technology and innovation.

Our program is accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in both the Logistics & Transportation and Manufacturing, Industrial & Systems disciplines, as well as by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Hong Kong. This helps graduates to become internationally recognized professional engineers.

"I have participated in the Flight Operations Internship program at Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. last summer. We took part in the team project of optimizing the crew resources planning and tried out the take-off and landing simulation. There were a lot of memorable moments working here. To sum up, I have been given ample opportunities to integrate into the company, develop all-round skills and earn valuable exposure to the aviation field."
