Annual Costs and Fees

The tuition fees and on campus accommodation and housing costs for local and non-local students are different. Opportunities for accommodation, internship, scholarships, employment and financial assistance also differ based on a number of criteria.

You are considered as a non-local student if you are a holder of the following documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR:

  1. Student visa/entry permit;
  2. Visa/entry permit under the Immigration Arrangement for Non-local Graduates; or
  3. 3. Dependent visa/entry permit (for students who were 18 years old or above)

Note: EDB in November 2018 reviewed and redefined its definition of dependent visa/entry permit for non-local students, applicable to all applicants, as students holding dependent visa/entry permit who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa/ entry permit by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR.

If you are offered admission into HKUST as a non-local student, you are required to pay tuition fees according to the fee schedule for non-local students.

Scholarships

HKUST is committed to supporting outstanding local and non-local students who choose to pursue their higher education. Scholarships are awarded to top students from all backgrounds based on academic merit and non-academic achievements.

Student Employment & Internship

Local: Full time local students can apply for different types of internships (paid or unpaid) and look for graduate job via the HKUST Career Centre.

Non-local: Full time non-local students with valid student visas are eligible to take up summer jobs and participate in curriculum-related internships that are endorsed by HKUST. In addition, during the semester, students are eligible to take up part-time jobs on campus for a maximum of 10 hours per week. After completion of their degree program, non-local international students may apply to stay and work in Hong Kong under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-Local Graduates.
