Mainland JEE Applicants

HKUST is authorized by the Ministry of Education of PRC to undertake independent recruitment of students from China while the University does not participate in the PRC’s National General Higher Education Admission Scheme. The University uses Joint Entrance Examination (JEE / Gaokao) scores as one of the admission criteria. Each year HKUST admits 170 students from China through its JEE admission scheme. Eligible JEE candidates interested in HKUST must submit an application directly to the University via the Online Application system before the designated deadline.

Application Procedure for Mainland Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Applicants

Step 1 - Research your study options

Students can be admitted to HKUST via one of the following pathways namely School-based and Program-based:

Step 3 - Evaluate your eligibility for admissions

Only those who are taking, or retaking the JEE 2018 are eligible to submit a JEE application. Students who took JEE in the past only or JEE for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students (港澳台侨联考) in the current year – may apply for undergraduate admission as students with international qualifications. Please refer to the entry requirements below for specific details.

Step 4 - Submit an application online

You should fill in your personal information and exam information as indicated, such as JEE province, stream of study, exam subjects, and upload a copy of your identification document. Application must be submitted with the HK$450 application fee. Application fee can be paid by VISA, MasterCard or UnionPay.

Step 5 - Stay tuned with us

Ensure your JEE Candidate Number has been entered on your online application form by 11 June. Once your JEE results are released in June, you should log in to your online application and update your JEE results. During the days to follow, HKUST will notify the shortlisted applicants for interviews and the invitation details will be provided in the online application system.

Step 6 - Receive an offer and join HKUST

After the interviews, admission offers will be issued during the following week until 6 July. Upon receiving an offer, you must pay a deposit to secure a place at HKUST within the deadline or your offer would expire. You will receive the information on the arrangement of student visa application, course registration, accommodation, and orientation.
(Note: Applicants who have accepted their offers are no longer eligible for the National General Higher Education Admission Scheme and will NOT receive any offers from any Mainland universities.)

Those who are not taking English in “Foreign Language” must possess valid results of international English proficiency test that are recognized by HKUST. Interview for Mainland Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Applicants

HKUST will invite shortlisted applicants to admission interview based on factors such as the final JEE results, application volume and interview capacity. Usually interviews are held in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The interview is in group format and conducted in English. Interviewers typically evaluate students’ logical and analytical reasoning, communication abilities and self-understanding.
