Tuition fees and the costs of University-provided accommodation differ for local and non-local students. To help you pursue your dream at HKUST, the University provides various forms of financial support, including admissions scholarships for outstanding students upon admissions. There are also other scholarship opportunities for current students.

You are considered as a non-local student if you are a holder of the following documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR:
- a student visa/entry permit; or
- a visa/entry permit under the Immigration Arrangement for Non-local Graduates; or
- a dependent visa/entry permit who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa/entry permit by the Director of Immigration.
Note: Education Bureau in November 2018 reviewed and redefined its definition of dependent visa/entry permit for non-local students, applicable to all applicants, as students holding dependent visa/entry permit who were 18 years old or above when they were issued with such visa/ entry permit by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR.
If you are offered admissions into HKUST as a non-local student, you are required to pay tuition fees according to the fee schedule for non-local students.

JUPAS students attaining Level 5** in 1 Category A subject or above in one single sitting of HKDSE will be eligible for JUPAS Scholarships. Academic scholarships are also awarded to top students with other qualifications based on academic merit.
Applicants are considered for these scholarships holistically, based on their profiles. Awards may be one-off or renewable, and may fully or partially waive tuition fees. The largest amount of scholarship funding is equivalent to the full tuition fee plus an allowance of HKD55,000 per academic year, renewable for the normative duration of study (subject to satisfactory academic performance).
No separate application is needed. Normally, applicants are notified of our scholarship decision when they receive their offer of admissions.
The WISE Scholarship was set up to encourage top caliber female students in the JUPAS pool to join our School of Science, School of Engineering or Interdisciplinary Programs Office. Female students with a strong interest in science or engineering who obtain Level 5** in at least one Category A subject are eligible for consideration for the WISE Scholarship. On top of academic strengths, WISE Scholars are expected to demonstrate non-academic talents, achievements in science and technology competitions, and good interview performance.
In the 2020/21 intake, each awardee will receive funding ranging from a one-off award of HKD10,000 to a renewable award of HKD20,000 p.a., and will also be entitled to apply for the University’s JUPAS Scholarship Scheme. The number of awardees will vary from year to year depending on the academic and non-academic merits of the eligible candidates, as well as the available funding.
The University sets up the Scholarship Scheme to honour outstanding International/Asian Olympiad Gold Medalists.
